A thought on leadership

A few days ago, I was asked what’s the difference between leadership coaching and performance coaching. But first … what is leadership? I’d like to share an insight regarding how I see leadership and why it’s different from what you might think.

Too often, (potential) leaders are seen as those who lead big teams or organizations.

But that’s not all!

A definition I resonate with is the one from the Conscious Leadership Group:

It extends the leadership horizon so much more, doesn’t it?

According to this definition, a leader is also:

  • a scientist working on groundbreaking research
  • a solopreneur building an amazing community
  • an engineer designing the next-level digital products
  • an artist inspiring kids to believe in their skills
  • an entrepreneur with a business very different than “the norm”
  • … and the list goes on and on

So you see why I choose the leadership arena for coaching 😉 I love working with those who dare, those who are willing to do what it takes to enlarge their comfort zone and go off the beaten track.

What’s your take on leadership?

Do you consider yourself a leader, someone willing to step into unknown?

Have a sunny day!

PS: regarding the difference between leadership coaching and performance coaching – the main difference stems from the intention of the coachee.

What I noticed is that people choosing leadership coaching focus more on the exploration of their identity & mindset, having a space to talk things through (being at the top can feel lonely at times), and they focus more on long-term topics.

Performance coaching is more focused on reaching certain milestones, making changes, which comes with the added layer of accountability, taking the steps that maybe frighten them, and finding strategies to advance more efficiently.
