Why every coaching relation should start with a discovery call

Ever wonder why coaches invite potential clients to a free discovery call before starting the collaboration? Spoiler: it’s win-win for both client & coach ๐Ÿ˜œ

A discovery call, or chemistry meeting, is usually the very first step of a coaching partnership. The reason is quite simple: in order for the coaching to deliver value, both the client and the coach need to go into the relationship with positivity and trust.

According to data-based evidence, the most critical ingredient in coaching that leads to growth and success is the relationship [1]. The catalyst for change isn’t solely based on the coach’s skills or tools, but it’s rather the nurturing relationship that creates the space for the client’s transformation.

Alright, let’s get back to the discovery call, shall we?

As a potential client, during a discovery call, you’ll get the following insights:
๐Ÿ‘‰ do you resonate with the coach?
๐Ÿ‘‰ how comfortable do you feel during the conversation?
๐Ÿ‘‰ what’s the approach of the coach in regard of the coaching collaboration?

As a coach, during a discovery call, I usually check the following:
๐Ÿ‘‰ do I resonate with the client?
๐Ÿ‘‰ what are the needs of the client?
๐Ÿ‘‰ are the expectations of the client in line with what I can offer?

To conclude, I encourage you to approach discovery calls with openness and curiosity. They’re an opportunity to see if there’s a “click” between the two of you and ask the questions you need answers to. There are no strings attached, and it’s perfectly fine to decide not to start a collaboration after you have the discovery call.

If you feel inspired to experience a free 20 minutes discovery call with me, you can schedule it via my Contact page.

Have a sunny day!
